Although we try to make the software reasonably bullet proof and test each release thoroughly with a group of testers across many Palm devices, we do *not* guarantee it will work as described for any given user on any given device. This is not a full time pursuit, and rather than charge a lot of money for support, we offer the software very inexpensively. So understand that by downloading or using the Shadow software you are at your own risk. If you lose your files (be they Shadow datafiles or not), you are on your own. In the unlikely event you do crash some files, please contact support@codejedi.com where we will try and help you recover the data therein. Use Hotsync to backup your data regularly. I can't be held responsible for what other programs may do to your shadow data, or hardware problems. I reserve the right to change the disclaimer at will.

Wavelet 0.6.0 for Palm OS! (Sampled alarms)  (Download)

Wavelet is a Palm OS5 utility that lets you play WAV samples or Voice Memo samples for alarms. Imagine having your datebook fire off an alarm, or your clock application sending a wakeup alarm.. and instead of getting the old Palm BEEP, you get a panther screech or a trumpet blast or a neat BOING noise instead? Wavelet is freeware designed to do this. Its not perfect, but should work very well, given the limits of Palm OS letting us play with alarms :)

Should work perfectly with the Tungsten T series, Zire 71, Tungsten C, and other units that honour the Palm OS sound system with OS 5. Does not work with Sony units because of some bad decisions Sony made. May work with Sony UX50?

Version 0.6.0: Volume level and looping/fadeout supported!
Version 0.0.5: When you've done a reset and it asks you if you'd like to keep Wavelet on or not, it previously played the alarm sample. That got annoying so the reset soundoff has been suppressed. Also, if an app fires off rapid alarms, Wavelet will not sound off within 20s of its last sound off. A few apps will send two alarm signals in quick succession, and we don't want to play both of them.

Note: The OS has limits as to what samples it can play. The exact details are:

  • uncompressed (PCM) or IMA 4-bit adaptive differential (IMA ADPCM). The ADPCM type is also known as DVI ADPCM; in a WAVE file, it.s known as format 0x11.
  • One or two-channels
  • All normal sampling rates (8k, 11k, 22.05k, 44.1k, 48, 96k).

MemTest for Palm OS Released! (RAM availability tool)

This is a crappy little debugging tool for Palm OS units; you probably DO NOT need this. When you run it, it lets you enter a number (of K) to allocate. PRess "Alloc!" and it grabs the memory and shows the total so far. You can keep doing it until you run out of RAM if you want, so you can see how much heap you've got. Reset the unit afterwards to free up the RAM!

For the record, it would appear the Tungsten T and T2 have 700k of heap, while the Sony Clie NX has a mighty 4MB.

Hack for Palm OS (hack being the ancestor to nethack, larn, etc)

There are numerous ports of 'rogue-like' games to Palm OS; find out more at the Rogue-like Palm site. This port of Hack is not done by me, but I'm hosting the source download to help ensure such important culture isn't lost :) Please see the included credits.txt file for history.
