I'm sure the news media is making more of this whole Liberal scandle than the population at large is, but its certainly too alarming a series of events to just 'let go' despite our apathy. Our Canadian approach to things is generally to be nice to something, maybe poke it with a stick a few times and then leave it be - but when our government is very likely illegally throwing our very hard come by tax bullion to the dogs, we should forcibly remove them if they don't have the honour to step down.

I've been wondering for weeks how often this sort of scandle has occurred in the past (since in our lifetimes it has occured!) and how these variations were dealt with. These days it is easy to get an idea of such things and so I offer up these tidbits:
Sir John A. MacDonald has always been well loved as being the first Prime Minister in our great parliament, and for being a raving lunatic of a man. Of course, in 1873 his corrupt Liberal goverment was nearly brought down and certainly the public outcry over the corruption helped keep the party from winning the 1874 election. (For irony consider the charges were the party accepting enormous bribes from a Sir Hugh Allan in order to grant him sole privelege to build the Canadian Pacific Railway!)
Brian Mulroney -- need I say more? For my newly born readers, he was a charming man whose entire stay was plagued by dozens of smaller scandles from kickbacks to major fraud and personal scandles. If I recall correctly, numerous Conservative party members were 'driven out' in shame, and poor Brian has been left with a reputation of being one of the most disliked PM's in recent memory. Oh, I almost forgot.. Brian's government brought about our most beloved friend, the GST.
Liberal PM William Lyon Mackenzie King was a good one that we studied quite a bit in public school, but what I remember most was he was in hot water for dealing with mobsters and helping get liquor across the border to the US during Prohibition. I can't really fault him for that though :)
Ah, I've just been referred to a little article the the CBC has done with regards to some of the top scandles in our history; See it here..
Now, I'm nearly quite sure Bob Rae and the NDP had their share of scandles, but I guess none of them were of the scale the other parties reached. I guess thats what happens when you've never in power.
At any rate, I say bring 'em down -- not because I believe the other parties are any better, but simply to give 'em a shake, bring in some change, and maybe teach someone a lesson -- that we will not stand for such abuses and will instead elect someone else to continue the beatings.
