Phil: Resolutions for the New Year
Wed, 21 Dec 2005

Making a promise to ones self is a common routine for a lot of us at New Years; I usually make simple ones that are easy to follow through and are quickly forgotten. This year I'll make a couple and try to fulfill them - an honest effort, for personal goals.. not company goals or some lofty thing.. something for me. A tall order however, to come up with guidelines sensible and not cheesie - none of this "Get rich", "grow a third arm" or "get taller" silliness.

Goal one: When an urge comes up, use my mind instead. This might sound rediculous, but I think over the last few years I've gotten sloppy in my busy-ness; I always try to avoid fried foods, but I admit I have slid back to regular colas instead of decaf 'all the time', and nabbing a bag of chips here or there. Must get back into form. Be honest, we all scrunch up our foreheads while in traffic or yell at the windshield.. we need to be cool, and relax. Don't let yourself get all out of whack.

Goal two: Another side effect of busy lives and our powerfully easy digital era is the reliance on email.. a good thing; however, email should be used as a conveniance or business tool, but not to replace a personal function like gabbing. We're humans.. social animals. We need to chat and hang out. I'm fairly chatty and good at hanging about, but its too easy to fire off an email instead of phoning someone, or going out for a bite with someone. When you work as much as I do, one must draw the line.. instead of slipping towards more work, claw towards less. I'm looking at all of you who've got a RIM on your hip ;)

Goal three, the lesser goal: Continue this personal trend towards having a little more fun; I get less done to be sure, but its nice to be catching some rare TV shows or movies on my laptop, to catch the occasional podcast of Retro Gaming Radio, or sit back with a paper or Retro Gamer magazine. Trying to get back more into comics again, and looking to get into gaming maybe .. always a fan but never a player, it'd be nice to fire up the PSP more, or maybe try out some tabletop wargaming like I did so often as a geek kid. Theres always Illuminati with friends...

So there, baring my personal thoughts again. Terrible!

OKay, I do need to grow the business, enter new markets, grow existing markets, and all sorts of things. But I'm not going to think about it over Christmas.. too stressfull :) Its my tiny little business, but its an enormous weight for me :)
